"Blocking shots, extracting performances, editing, choosing and cutting music -- all of this is what I was born to do. I was given a tremendous gift: the ability to talk to people through the language of film. I "think" in the language of film. It's all about juxtaposing imagery, sound and pacing in the perfect combination to evoke an emotion in the human heart. Editing has always been my strong point. I would spend six hours editing a slide show together to present to my family when I was 9 years old. I remember knowing that if I arranged the slides in the right order, I could get my parents to cry. That was a real kick for me. After that I cut 8mm movies for fun before I even took a single film course. When I'm cutting, I can feel the the gift just coming through me and into my hands. It never fails; late at night, crafting an intricate scene, and time just stops. And any pain, physical or emotional, just sort of...goes away. It's my nirvana. Working on a film, I am the happiest that I can be".
